An SASR patrol employs donkeys to carry heavy and cumbersome field equipment in the challengingand mountainous country of Afghanistan during operations in 2001-2002. Unfortunately, the donkeys did not always appreciate the workload and often refused to co-operate.

This painting is in the collection of the SASR Museum Foundation, and was part of the SASR -OUT OF THE SHADOWS Golden Jubilee Exhibition at the Western Australian Museum, Perth from Saturday12 April- Sunday 1 June 2014, 9.30am-5.00pm

This painting also features within, as well as on the cover of the book-‘Art of the Australian SAS’

The ‘Art of the Australian SAS’ gives a unique, personal glimpse into the private world of one of Australia’s great institutions. 2014 marks the Golden Jubilee of The Special Air Service Regiment and, for the very first time, the artworks of the Australian SAS have been showcased in one volume and made available to the general public.

The art in this book spans 50 years of Regimental history. In their own individual ways the sculptures, drawings, sketches and paintings illustrate a relentless pursuit of excellence, sense of family, discipline, primacy of operational capability, humility, humour, loyalty and mutual respect – core values of The Special Air Service Regiment.

Through the eyes of over 30 artists, many acclaimed both in Australia and overseas, the works contained in this book give an appreciation of what it means to live by the motto “Who Dares Wins”.

I picked up the print today from our nosy small town postal worker. "What did you get from Australia?" she asked. When I remarked that it was a print of the Australian Light Horse in WWI all that generated was a very puzzled look.
In any event the print is absolutely gorgeous . . . better "in person" than on the website! Thanks so much for sending it out so fast. Now I've got to make some wall space available . . .

Dear Mr. Marshall,

Your print on canvas "The Charge" was given to me at my retirement dinner by my officers of the Special Operations Component, Coral Springs Police Department in Coral Springs, Florida. Trully stunning rendition which captures the excitement of the moment while conveying a warmth of comeradeship to the end. It will hang in my study above my collection of King and Country Lighthorsemen collectibles.

I served 35 years with Coral Springs Police Department with the last four years as Captain of the S.O.C. which is 26 officers strong with various units (Tactical & Gang, K-9, Bikes and Substations).

Your painting made my day, thank you, F McK.
